About RepoTrending.

RepoTrending ranks GitHub repos by the stars they gained in the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. It is an independent project, not part of GitHub, and every number on it comes from GitHub's public API.

What it does

Each day we save the star count of every repo we follow. A gain is the count in the latest snapshot minus the count 1, 7 or 30 days earlier, and the lists are sorted by that gain. On Nov 4, 2026 we followed 12,734 repos, starting with every repo that has 5,000 stars or more.

The result is three lists, Today, This week and This month, plus Best of all time and pages for languages and topics. A list that does not have its full window of data yet says so instead of guessing.

Why it exists

A list of what is hot is only useful if you can check how it was made. So the method is public and short: one number, stars gained, one source, GitHub's API, one snapshot a day. You can redo any rank by hand with two visits to a repo, 24 hours apart. Read the whole method on How we rank, and the comparison with GitHub's own list on RepoTrending vs GitHub Trending.

What we do not do

  • We do not tell a real surge from bought stars. A star count is a count; the limits are written down.
  • We do not let money change a rank. Sponsored spots are always labeled and never change a rank.
  • We do not ask you to sign up to read a ranking.
  • We are not affiliated with GitHub, and we do not read github.com/trending.

Who is behind it

RepoTrending is run by Sinh Giang, Vietnam. The guides and pages are signed "RepoTrending", the name of the site, and we do not invent an author. Who is responsible for the site is also written on the Privacy page. If a named author ever signs a page, that person wrote it.

No. RepoTrending is not affiliated with GitHub. We read GitHub's public API, once a day, and nothing else. We do not read github.com/trending.

Where do the numbers come from?

From GitHub's public API. We save each repo's star count once a day, and a gain is today's count minus the count 1, 7 or 30 days earlier. On Nov 4, 2026 we were tracking 12,734 repos.

Can money buy a place in a ranking?

No. A rank is stars gained, and nothing else goes into it. Sponsored spots are always labeled and never change a rank.

How do I report a wrong number?

Send us the repo (owner/name), the list, the day and what you expected, from the Contact page. We check it against GitHub and, if we got it wrong, fix it and say so in public.
